Kicking

Ball rotation on contact:
Ball should spin cleanly end over end and not wobble.

Position of head during follow-through:
Hold your head up, with your eyes on the ball.  [See picture 18.]  After kicking the ball, lower your eyes to look at the ball, but do not lower your head.

 COMMON ERROR
  Lowering the head to look at the ball instead of lowering only the eyes.  [See picture 19.]

Position of shoulders during follow-through:
Shoulders should be parallel to the ground.  Do not dip either shoulder.

Position of arms during follow-through:
Extend your arms outward for balance.

Position of planting foot during follow-through:
Your planting foot starts to get off the ground as you follow through.

Position of hips during follow-through:
Rotate your hips to the left in sync with your kicking leg as it comes up and across your body.

Position of kicking foot during follow-through:
Point your toe and lock your ankle.  [See picture 27.]

Position of head after follow-through:
Hold your head up and look at the ball.

 COMMON ERROR
  Looking up while making contact with the ball.
Position of kicking foot after follow-through:
Bring your kicking foot to your opposite shoulder, at least waist-high or higher as your foot points to 11 o'clock.  The higher your leg follows through, the higher the ball will go.  [See pictures 28 and 29.]

Where to land after follow-through:
You should land on your plant foot and about 1 foot past the tee straight down and slightly to the left downfield.  Your body should come down balanced and will be slightly rotated to the left.

 COMMON ERROR
Not getting off the ground with the plant foot.
Getting off the ground but landing on the kicking foot.
Getting off the ground but landing on both feet.
Spinning after the landing.
Falling to the left or to the right after landing.
Landing more than 12” past the tee.
Falling backwards after landing.
Swinging the leg across the body (leg points toward sideline).
